The inspiration comes from the history of the carnival in Recife, a beautiful place in the Northeast of Brazil where the third biggest carnival celebration of Brazil takes place.

The joyous time in this port city has a very distinguished style which is heavily influenced by African and Indian tribes which were held as slaves during the Portuguese rule.

The strategy of the occupiers which aimed at making native Brazilians work in their sugar cane fields did not work out well. This is why African serfs were used for the work on the fields. These tribes were heavily influenced by the forms of life, music and dances of the Brazilians.

The Africans made use of masks and costumes produced from feathers, bones, grass, stones and other elements aiming at conjuring the gods and protecting the inhabitants from all evil. All of these had a symbolic meaning in old african traditions and make up a vast part of the designs of the modern carnival period. Therefore the inhabitants of this famous place by the atlantic prepare all year long for their masquerade for carnival. In all variations and all colours. They prepare six costumes, one costume for each day.
